From the very beginning, with our monsoon response plan, Nepal Red Cross Society National Headquarters ‘Emergency Operation Center’ is continuously updating the information through SitRep, corresponding with our nationwide networks (district and sub-chapters). And we are trying our best to share the situation report as widely as possible.

We hope, our sharing has enhanced to understand and analyze the needs of the affected population, which is our mutual responsibility to make an efficient plan and response strategy to bring back the affected people to their normal life.

Beginning on 11 August 2017, the worst rains in 15 years struck Nepal, triggering widespread large-scale flooding and landslides in 26 of the country's 75 districts, spanning from the eastern, central to the western regions.

Eastern districts of Jhapa, Sunsari, Morang, Saptari and central districts of Sarlahi, Bara, Makawanpur, Sindhuli, Chitwan, Rautahat, Dhanusha were the most affected. In the mid-western region, Dang, Banke, Bardiya and Surkhet are highly affected.

Brief update of Flood landslide 2017 (up to 15 Aug 2017)

Context:

The full extent of the disaster is not yet known. Many affected areas remain inaccessible due to damaged roads and bridges. Also, the communication system and electricity has run-down.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) authorities estimate that hundreds of thousands of people have been affected across the country. The population of the affected districts totals approximately 11.5 million, however, the exact number of people in need of assistance is not yet known.

Well-equipped local health facilities in remote areas of various quake-hit districts are delivering quality health services. A case in point could be Lagarche Health Post at Lagarche in Sindhupalchowk district. The locals have been receiving medical services from the health post, housed in a pre-fab building with modern medical equipment and trained health assistants.

Earthquake Recovery Operation updates

The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) is the largest humanitarian organization in Nepal, with coverage over the whole country. It is playing a prominent role in helping survivors of the 2015 earthquake and is working in all 14 districts identified by government assessments as being the worst affected. NRCS works closely with the Government of Nepal in humanitarian affairs. NRCS reached more than 3.5 million people with emergency assistance immediately after the earthquake.

The Government of Japan has donated four ambulance vehicles to the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS).

His Excellency Mr. Masashi Ogawa, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Nepal, handed over the keys of the ambulances to Gulmi, Pyuthan, Morang and Udayapur districts chapter leaders of Nepal Red Cross. Chairman of NRCS Mr. Sanjeev Thapa, Secretary General Mr. Dev Ratna Dhakhwa and other office bearers and key staff were present in the handover ceremony organized at the central office of Nepal Red Cross Society in Kathmandu.

02 Aug 2016 description

The number of floods and landslides affected families from 21st June to 31st July 2016 has reached 12,519. NRCS national headquarters has dispatched 2291 set family kits and additional 250 Pieces of Tarpaulins and 250 pieces of Blankets to floods and landslides affected districts for immediate response. NRCS district Chapters have mobilized 890 volunteers in order to carry out relief support in affected districts. .
