  • The number of new refugees, asylumseekers and migrants present in Serbia continued dropping to 4,245 counted on 31 August. 3,903 (i.e. 93%) of them were accommodated in 18 governmental centres across the country, while smaller groups were observed in border areas or Belgrade.

  • On 10 August, authorities accommodated 28 men and boys, previously sleeping rough in the woods near the northern border, in Preševo Reception Centre.

  • On 30 May, a new Reception Centre (RC) in Vranje (South) accommodated a first 135 refugees/migrants, all families and/or unaccompanied and separated children (UASCs), who were all voluntarily transferred from Presevo Reception Centre (RC).

  • On 31 May, the last 200 residents of Transit Centre (TC) Šid were moved to other centres and the Centre remained deactivated.

  • The number of new refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants in Serbia continued to stabilize. 7,364 were counted on 30 April. 5,985 (i.e. 81%) were accommodated in 18 governmental centres across the country, while the rest were counted squatting mainly in Belgrade City.

  • Based on all available information, 43% of those accommodated were children, 42% adult men, and 15% adult women; 57% originated from Afghanistan, 19% from Iraq, 13% from Pakistan, 6% from Syria and 5% from other counties.

Niš, 10-May-2017 Agricultural producers in seven municipalities of eastern Serbia recently received the final round of European Union assistance to small-scale farms hit by the floods of 2014.

Through a partnership with FAO, 600 metric tonnes livestock feed was distributed to 1 875 households in Boljevac, Knjaževac, Kladovo, Majdanpek, Negotin, Svrljig and Zaječar. This distribution marked the end to an almost three-year long EU-FAO flood relief programme.

Belgrade, 26-January-2015 – The UN Country Team in Serbia announced to its partners community in Serbia that the Regional Refugee and Migrant Response Plan has been launched in Geneva yesterday under the auspices of UNHCR and IOM. The Regional Refugees and Migrants Response Plan calls for assistance to Greece, FYR of Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia and Turkey in addressing the needs of refugees and migrants in 2016.

Belgrade, 9 December 2015 – Between June and early December, the UN Country Team in Serbia has already provided support in value of USD 7.45 million worth of assistance to help the country deal with the refugee and migrant crisis, reported Michel Saint-Lot, the acting United Nations Resident Coordinator in Serbia at a briefing for international partners in Belgrade on Wednesday. More support is on the way. The UN Country team announced the launch of a Regional Response Plan in which the UN agencies seek a total of nearly 45 million USD the coming year for Serbia alone.

Belgrade, 17-July-2015 - Serbia FAO and the European Union will start a second round of assistance to flood-affected farms in Serbia this month, expected to reach an additional 7,000 households and six municipalities not included in the first round.

When the heaviest rains in 120 years of recorded measurements struck the Balkan Peninsula in May 2014, floods and landslides in Serbia killed 57 people and forced over thirty thousand to evacuate their homes. Damage to agriculture - livestock, crops, machinery, and infrastructure - was severe: estimated at Euro 228 million.

The European Union, the United Nations and the World Bank – on the basis of an inter-agency agreement subscribed in 2008 – provided financial and expert support to conduct the assessment.
