Amref Health Africa in Kenya has received Ksh 4.6 billion from Global Fund to help fight Tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria in the next four years (January 2018-June 2021) after going through a competitive process as a non-state Principal Recipient for both TB and malaria.

Speaking during the official contract signing ceremony at the National Treasury, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, Mr Henry Rotich thanked the Global Fund for their continuous support to the country in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Addis Ababa, October 16, 2017 The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) officially launched a suite of four activities to address preventable maternal and child deaths in Ethiopia.

These “Transform” activities will support the Government of Ethiopia’s overall efforts to prevent child and maternal deaths. USAID is investing approximately $181 million (USD) in these activities through 2022.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is also providing support.

Boys and girls graduate in colourful alternative rite of passage ceremony

In a significant shift from tradition, Maasai elders in Loitoktok, in Kenya’s Kajiado County, yesterday blessed 363 girls who had chosen to forgo traditional female genital as a rite of initiation into womanhood. Instead the girls went through an alternative rite of passage ceremony that saw them graduate to womanhood with their cultural dignity intact, but without having to undergo the harmful cut.

Si ceux-ci  font de la lutte contre la sous-nutrition une priorité, c’est loin d’être le cas de la France, dont la part de l’APD consacrée à la nutrition ne dépasse pas 2,2% dans ces pays (dont 91% à des projets d’aide alimentaire d’urgence).

The Amref Health Africa Kenya Country Office team provided the room required, and Alexander Forbes was generous enough to fully equip the room,” said Amref Health Africa Group CEO, Dr Githinji Gitahi. He noted that the room was admirable due to its privacy, cleanliness and a proper storage facility.
