HAIFA (August 25) - The Home Front Command rescue team returned home yesterday after a week in Turkey during which they rescued 12 survivors of the earthquake and uncovered 146 bodies.

Led by OC Home Front Command Maj.-Gen. Gabi Ophir, the soldiers landed at an air force base near Ben-Gurion Airport, where Ophir read them a message from Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Shaul Mofaz, in which he wrote: "The mission you returned from now was a humane one and a moral duty of the highest order.

BRADZE, Macedonia (April 9) - "This one we call Yirmiyahu, that one is Tikva, and this one here is Fortuna Ziona," said Col. Dr. Dan Engelhard, a pediatrician, pointing to the three newborns under his care.

By yesterday afternoon another baby, a girl, was born in the refugee camp hospital - delivered by Israeli doctors and taped by half a dozen TV crews from around the world.

"How do you say 'mazal tov' in Albanian?" one doctor asks. "Te'et mershendat," the translator says.

TIRANA, Albania (April 9) - Albanian President Rexhap Mejdani yesterday thanked the Israeli people for donating aid for refugees from Kosovo, saying the effort is important "because it is a gift from people to people."

Speaking to a Jewish Agency delegation in his palace in Albania's capital, Mejdani said: "I think all human beings have to contribute, because this conflict is a conflict between barbarism, genocide, and deportation on one side, and a new order of brotherhood and peace in the Balkans on the other."
