IDSN has published a Roadmap to the “UNOHCHR Guidance Tool on Descent-Based Discrimination: Key challenges and strategic approaches to combat caste-based discrimination and analogous forms of discrimination.” The Roadmap serves as an introduction to the concepts and recommendations covered in the tool.

Following the devastating floods in South Asia serious concern for Dalit communities affected by the disaster is being reported. IDSN’s members are on the ground responding and monitoring the situation as it unfolds.

Nepal, Bangladesh and India have experienced severe flooding over the past weeks and many Dalit communities are hard hit. In this article we will share some of the reports we have received from members in Nepal. We will be following up on this once more reports have come in from the rest of the region.

New report by UN Special Rapporteur constitutes milestone, human rights organisations say.

GENEVA, 17 MARCH 2016 --- Caste-affected countries should take urgent and comprehensive action to combat caste discrimination, the UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues, Rita IzsàkNdiaye, says in a new report on the issue published this week. The report was presented and discussed in the Human Rights Council on 15th March.

The Dalits of Bangladesh are deprived of access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). A new report urges to country’s government to take action on the issue and civil society groups to pay more attention to the needs of the Dalit population.

Clean water is a luxury for the Dalits of Dhaka. While members of the Bangladeshi capital’s non-Dalit population mostly boil or filter their water, the economically deprived and discriminated Dalits often have to make do with unsafe water sources.
