Super Typhoon Yutu is the worst storm to hit this region since 1968. As it moves away from the Marianas region, extensive damage to critical infrastructure on Saipan and Tinian has left the Commonwealth devastated with many families displaced. Relief and recovery efforts are now well underway as the CNMI Government is taking appropriate measures to ensure the safety and security of all residents in the Marianas.

This is a report for situational awareness and impacts from Hurricane Willa and includes useful social media official links and information. The report is based on reports from social media and public domain sources. Humanity Road activated its Digital Disaster Response Team on October 24, 2018 to monitor as Hurricane Willa made landfall as a Category 3 storm near Isla del Bosque, Sinaloa state, in Mexico. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) winds speeds were recorded at 120 mph with a wind gust of 95 mph reported.

Humanity Road activated its disaster desk in response to Cyclone Gita which heavily impacted Tongatapu in Tonga. Gita made landfall as the equivalent of a category 4 storm. Background

On 12 February, 2018, the Tonga National Emergency Management Office was activated at 7:00am in preparation for Tropical Cyclone Gita which was a Category 3 storm. It was located near 20.9 South 168.6 West or 670km East-Northeast of Nuku’alofa or 600km East-Northeast of Lifuka. People were advised to have their emergency kits packed and to evacuate if living in flood-prone areas. source At 10:00am on 12 February, the Prime Minister declared a state of emergency for the whole of Tonga.

Situation Overview

On September 19, 2017 at 2:14 ET, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred approximately 5 km ENE of Raboso, Mexico. The earthquake occurred 51 km deep. Communities most impacted by the event (estimated population of the Puebla Region is 1,590,256) include Raboso, Izúcar de Matamoros, Atencingo, Atlixco, and Puebla. The USGS estimates 100 - 1,000 casualties are likely to have occurred and predicts there could be up to $10 billion in damages. source
