This publication aims to provide an overview of the protection environment of displacement incidents in Mindanao for each month. Displacement incidents were collected with the support of Protection Cluster members in Mindanao.

Highlights

  • Through the generous support of the Government of Italy, WFP started a food assistance for assets activity in 15 barangays in Lanao del Sur. WFP provided vegetable seeds for planting to 1,580 participants and reached 7,900 individuals with rice.

  • WFP reached 93,270 individuals in Marawi and Iligan cities and nine municipalities in Lanao del Sur with rice, through general distributions.

Update on the Dengue situation in the Western Pacific Region

Cambodia

As of 31 May 2018, a total of 960 suspected dengue cases have been reported in Cambodia. In weeks 20 and 21, 2018, there were 131 and 135 new suspected dengue cases respectively. The number of reported dengue cases have increased compared to the previous weeks, above the alert threshold level (Figure 1).

Highlights

  • WFP received a contribution of NZD 500,000 (US$ 350,000) from the Government of New Zealand to continuously provide life-saving food assistance to those still living in displacement.

  • In May, WFP simultaneously conducted rice distributions to displaced families in 11 barangays in Iligan City and 15 municipalities in Lanao del Sur supported by generous contributions of the Government of Australia and the United States Agency for International Development, and reached 7,412 families with rice.

As of 17 April 2018, a total of 408 suspected dengue cases have been reported in Cambodia. In weeks 14 and 15, there were 45 and 48 new suspected dengue cases, respectively. In weeks 14 and 15, the total number of reported dengue cases was below the three year-threshold (2015-2017) for the same period (Figure 1).

This is the final report on Typhoon Paolo (international name: Lan) which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on 15 October 2017. It has affected weather systems in Visayas and Mindanao bringing moderate to heavy rains resulting to flashfloods and landslides, and strong to gale force winds generating big waves. It left PAR on 21 October 2017.

33,463 families or 161,975 persons were affected in 159 barangays (see Table 1).

This is the final report on the monitored Tropical Depression and was named “Urduja” (international name: Kai-tak). Which occurred on 12 December 2017 and exited Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on 19 December 2017.

There were 435,220 families or 1,852,900 persons affected in 2,524 barangays in Regions V, VI, VII, VIII, MIMAROPA and CARAGA (see Table 1; details in Annex A).

As of 20 March 2018, a total of 247 suspected dengue cases have been reported in Cambodia in 2018. In week 10 and 11, there were 36 and 38 new suspected dengue cases respectively. In week 10 and 11, the total number of reported dengue cases was similar to the three year-threshold (2015-2017) over the same period (Figure 1).
