On Sunday 11th of December 2016 a blast targeted the Boutroseya Church which is adjacent to the St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Cairo's Abbasiya district. The Ministry of Health announced that at least 25 people were killed and 49 more injured.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi strongly denounced the terrorist attack on the Boutroseya Church that left several Egyptian martyrs. The President announced a three-day mourning across the country as of Sunday 11/12/2016.

House of Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel Aal said life was back to normal by more than 95 percent in the areas that were badly hit by floods in several regions.

On that score, Abdel Aal greeted those who shouldered the responsibility of repairing damage caused in these regions, particularly the armed forces.

The Armed Forces constantly stand by Egyptians in such crises," Abdel Aal said on Tuesday 1/11/2016 during the parliament's general session.

"Some leaderships were present around the clock on the ground," he noted.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail stressed the need of providing urgent assistance to people affected by torrential downpours and intense flooding which took place in the town of Ras Gharib, in the eastern Red Sea governorate.

Ismail, meanwhile, underlined the need of taking the necessary measures to provide the necessary compensation to those affected by floods.

During his visit to Ras Gharib on Saturday, Ismail inspected a number of buildings affected by the floods in the city.

He also listened to the complaints of the residents.

Health Minister Ahmed Emad el Din Radi and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi signed Wednesday a MoU, allowing the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide health services for refugees in Egypt.

The $1.1 million MoU aims at setting a framework for cooperation between the Health Ministry and the UNHCR to provide primary care and emergency services to the registered refugees at the UN body in Egypt.

Head of the High Elections Committee (HEC) Ayman Abbas announced on 30/8/2015 in detail the schedule for the coming parliamentary elections, to kick off on October 17, 2015.

According to the committee, candidates will submit their papers as of September 1 to September 12. Within this period all documents will be checked.

As for the first phase of elections, the final lists of candidates will be announced on September 28, so that they can start their electoral campaigns.

On September 29-30, the candidates will have an opportunity to give up the candidacy.

CAIRO - Egypt lost an estimated 20.3 billion Egyptian pounds (US$3.7 billion) or 1.9 percent of Gross Domestic Product in 2009 as a result of child undernutrition, according to a study launched today in Cairo.

The Cost of Hunger in Africa: The Social and Economic Impact of Child Undernutrition in Egypt report measures the losses to the Egyptian economy caused by child undernutrition, particularly the effects of stunting or chronic malnutrition.

The Ministry of Health said on Sunday 7/4/2013 that 24 persons were injured due to violence that took place in Cairo, Fayoum and Gharbia governorates on Saturday, confirming that there are no deaths.

Health Ministry director for emergency care Dr. Khaled al-Khatib said that Cairo's 19 injuries were moved to Al Helal and Coptic hospitals, Nasser Institute, Mounira and Qasr al-Aini, Police hospitals.

One was moved to Fayoum Public Hospital and four were moved to Mahala Hospital in Gharbia governorate.

Lt. General Samy Anan, the deputy chief of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces said presidential elections will be held on time and power will be handed over on June 30.

Anan said the armed forces have no power ambitions and their main goal is piloting the country to safety. This came on 21/4/2012 in statements by Anan during a meeting with professors of constitutional law and deans of the Egyptian faculties of law.
