Influenza: Burden of disease estimation in Saudi Arabia

On July 2018, the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia conducted a three-day workshop on the estimation of the influenza burden using Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) surveillance data. During the workshop, 12 participants from different regions of the country were trained by influenza experts from Infection Hazard Management unit (IHM) of WHO Regional office for Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO).

King patronises opening of first International Humanitarian Forum in Riyadh

RIYADH, February 26 (CIC) – The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, on Monday inaugurated an electronic platform for Saudi international aid at the opening of the Kingdom's first International Humanitarian Forum in Riyadh.

The two-day event in the Saudi capital provides a unique opportunity to look at changing global humanitarian needs and to formulate new practical and efficient responses.

Somalia - The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) supported the United Nations Migration Agency (IOM) to roll out two trainings on trafficking, smuggling, and human rights of migrants, returnees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees for the Counter Trafficking Agency of Somaliland (HAKAD) and the Somaliland Ministry of Return, Resettlement and Reintegration (MRRR) between 28-30 May 2017. The trainings were designed to enhance the capacity of these institutions to better address issues of trafficking, smuggling and migrants’ rights.

  • Heavy rain has continued to affect several areas of the country over the past few days causing more floods.

  • Local media, as of 30 November early morning (UTC), reported that at least seven people have been killed, of which three in Bisha, two in Baha and another two in Qunfudah (south-west Saudi Arabia). Several have been injured, homes damaged and traffic disrupted throughout the country.

  • Over the next 24 h, locally moderate rainfall may still affect the western, central and mid-eastern areas of the country.
