ERF supports NWA response

The new contribution from the Swedish International Cooperation Development Agency (SIDA) in August 2014 enabled the Pakistan Emergency Response Fund (ERF) to fund response activities to displaced persons from North Waziristan Agency (NWA).

ERF allocated US$3.5 million to 26 projects in Bannu, DI Khan, Karrak and Lakki Marwat.

As of 01 November 2014, humanitarian partners have completed 232 projects; 38 projects are ongoing.
Since August 2010, more than US$ 56 million have been allocated for humanitarian projects, assisting more than 5.6 million people.

More than 97 % funds were allocated to NGOs with 56% going to national NGOs. The ERF is the key humanitarian funding window for many Pakistani humanitarian NGOs.

SITUATION OVERVIEW

Security related developments in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) forced hundreds of thousands of people to leave their homes and move to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and other locations commencing 22 May 2014.

Since 2008, more than 5 million people from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) have been registered as displaced. At the start of 2014, 970,000 people were displaced.

The military operation in the North Waziristan Agency (NWA) in June 2014 led to further displacements of more than half a million people. The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has verified nearly 74,400 families displaced from NWA.

SITUATION OVERVIEW

There are 1.38 million people displaced as of 25 November across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). In June 2014, new security operations in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) resulted in the displacement of over 450,000 (verified) people to neighbouring districts of Bannu, Hangu, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.

In June 2014, the Government of Pakistan commenced a military security operation in North Waziristan Agency targeting non-state armed actors. The operations prompted large scale displacement of more than 1 million people. In July 2014, the Emergency Relief Coordinator allocated US$5 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to help humanitarian partners provide emergency aid to thousands of people in need.
