The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Niue Readiness Project has officially commenced with the launch of the Project at an Inception Workshop held at the Matavai resort in Niue on 9 February 2018. The GCF Readiness project will support Niue to work more effectively with the GCF and other partners to access finance to address the countries priority climate change needs.

A stronger understanding of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process and how it can be effectively applied to Niue was the outcome of a special training workshop held in Niue in August.

An EIA assesses the impacts of a development upon the environment, and the impacts of the environment on a development, before an approval decision is made. It recommends the best steps to take in planning a development while maintaining environmental integrity.

Niue has developed new EIA regulations which are soon to be enacted.

21 July 2016, Rarotonga Cook Islands - A new Automated Weather Station in Niue will assist with improving the safety standards of Niue's aviation and the quality of weather and climate data for development planning and early warning services in Niue.

Funded by the Finnish-Pacific (FINPAC) Project, the iSTAR Automated Weather Station is a new milestone achievement for the Pacific islands. FINPAC aims at reducing the vulnerability of the livelihoods of Pacific islanders to the impacts of climate change through strengthening the Meteorological Services.

BSPRA ground-breaking way to address how Pacific Island countries prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters was launched today by the European Union Ambassador for the Pacific, H.E. Andrew Jacobs, and the Premier of Niue, the Hon Toke Talagi, in the margins of the Pacific Community Conference in Alofi.

Niue is the first Pacific Island country to commit to the Strategic Roadmap for Emergency Management which will ensure its emergency services work together to build a solid foundation for a prosperous future for the people of Niue.
