For nearly eight years, conflict has raged across the whole of Syria, forcing millions of families to flee at a moment’s notice – either across borders as refugees or to more remote areas inside Syria far from their homes. Relief International has focused significant attention on supporting the growing needs of internally displaced families in Syria’s Idlib province. Home to nearly three million people, mostly civilians, one-third of the city’s population has been forced to move to Idlib from elsewhere in Syria.
The humanitarian situation in Ukraine remains critical and international humanitarian actors, including the United Nations system, national and international NGOs and other international organizations, are engaged in the humanitarian relief response. In December 2014 the cluster system was activated and currently six clusters are actively engaged in life-saving activities throughout the country. This 3W (WHO is doing WHAT WHERE) captures the presence of partners operating on the ground in each oblast.

ATLANTA — Because of discrepancies between the official preliminary election results in the DRC and the results reported by some domestic observers and parties, The Carter Center expresses concern about the potential for insecurity and conflict and asks all political leaders to call on their supporters to refrain from violence and to pursue any challenges to the election results through legal channels.

Carter Center, partners go all out to solve infections in animals
ATLANTA — Just 28 human cases of Guinea worm disease were reported in 2018, down slightly from 30 cases reported in 2017. When The Carter Center assumed leadership of the Guinea Worm Eradication Program in 1986, there were an estimated 3.5 million human cases annually in 21 countries in Africa and Asia.
El portavoz del Secretario General de la ONU y las Naciones Unidas en Colombia condenaron en los términos más enérgicos el ataque cometido este jueves contra la Escuela de Cadetes de la Policía General Santander en Bogotá, que dejó varias víctimas mortales y decenas de heridos.

Ciudad de Guatemala, 17 ene (AGN).- El Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración (IGM) registró el ingreso de 1.701 hondureños y 107 salvadoreños al país centroamericano, quienes integran las caravanas de migrantes que se dirigen hacia Estados Unidos.
“Se realizó un control migratorio a 107 personas de nacionalidad salvadoreña, quienes ingresaron ayer por la delegación fronteriza La Hachadura, en Jutiapa, limítrofe con El Salvador”, informó Alejandra Mena, vocera del IGM.
De acuerdo al último relevamiento permanecen 3374 personas desplazadas en todo el país. De ese total, 1048 son evacuadas y 2326 autoevacuadas.
WHO is supporting the Ministry of Public Health of Madagascar to respond to an unusually large measles outbreak. Madagascar last experienced measles outbreaks in 2003 and 2004, with reported number of cases at 62 233 and 35 558, respectively. Since then, the number of reported cases had sharply declined until the current outbreak. From 4 October 2018 to 7 January 2019, 19 539 measles cases and 39 “facility-based” deaths (case fatality ratio: 0.2%) have been reported by the Ministry of Public Health (MoH) of Madagascar.

A nivel mundial, los países han detectado y reportado más víctimas, y han condenado a más tratantes. Esto puede ser el resultado de una mayor capacidad para identificar a las víctimas y/o de un mayor número de víctimas de la trata.
Entre 2016 y 2017 se registraron en Colombia 128 casos de trata de personas, de los cuales 113 fueron víctimas mujeres: 107 mujeres adultas y 6 niñas.
En respuesta a una solicitud de apoyo realizada por autoridades de Presidente Hayes, este jueves 17 serán asistidas 170 familias de la localidad de General Bruguez, quienes se encuentran aisladas por las últimas lluvias registradas en la zona, situación que les impide desarrollar sus actividades cotidianas. La asistencia estará a cargo de personal operativo de la Dirección General de Reducción de Riesgos de la Secretaría de Emergencia Nacional (SEN).
