In their bid to provide clean and safe water for communities of Kerwa Village in Kiambu County, Amref Health Africa in Kenya, EABL Foundation and Kiambu County Government commissioned a renovated borehole to the community at a ceremony held on October 24. The renovation of the borehole which will benefit approximately 7,000 people from the county was made possible by funding from EABL Foundation to a sum of US$ 42,900.

Boys and girls graduate in colourful alternative rite of passage ceremony

In a significant shift from tradition, Maasai elders in Loitoktok, in Kenya’s Kajiado County, yesterday blessed 363 girls who had chosen to forgo traditional female genital as a rite of initiation into womanhood. Instead the girls went through an alternative rite of passage ceremony that saw them graduate to womanhood with their cultural dignity intact, but without having to undergo the harmful cut.

Si ceux-ci  font de la lutte contre la sous-nutrition une priorité, c’est loin d’être le cas de la France, dont la part de l’APD consacrée à la nutrition ne dépasse pas 2,2% dans ces pays (dont 91% à des projets d’aide alimentaire d’urgence).

Amref Health Africa has opened a lactation room today in partnership with Alexander Forbes Kenya, which decorated and furnished the room. “I would like to really thank Alexander Forbes and the Amref Health Africa Kenya Country Office team. The Amref Health Africa Kenya Country Office team provided the room required, and Alexander Forbes was generous enough to fully equip the room,” said Amref Health Africa Group CEO, Dr Githinji Gitahi. The Dream Fund grants funds trailblazing ‘dream’ programmes that catalyse structural change; in this case that programme is Amref Health Africa’s and PharmAccess’s M-Hakika, which makes money and quality healthcare accessible to women in Kenya directly via their mobile phone. M-Hakika cleverly combines healthcare knowledge, quality and financing, all through the mobile telephone.
