22 March 2018, Monrovia - In a pivotal moment for the history of Liberia, the United Nations mission there successfully completed its mandate after almost 15 years of supporting the West African nation in the transition to peace and democracy.
At a ceremony in Monrovia today attended by President George Weah, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed lauded the accomplishments of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).

21 March 2018, Monrovia – The United Nation Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) funded a project to consolidate a grassroots process to define a national policy for peace and reconciliation that prioritizes local voices across Liberia which was finalized by a two-day conference under the theme: “Local Voices for Inclusive reconciliation”.
13 March 2018, Monrovia - UNMIL Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Political and Rule of Law, Mr. Waldemar Vrey on behalf of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) handed over a Case Progression and tracking database for the use of the County Attorney’s office( Montserrado. This is a Quick Impact Project which also include a 2 day capacity building for the staff of the County Attorney’s office in Montserrado, on the use of the database.
Monrovia - On 28 February 2018, a graduation ceremony of a three month Advanced Course on Women, Peace and Security supported by UNMIL was convened at the University of Liberia (UL) Auditorium in Monrovia.
The ceremony gathered around 120 participants from the Liberia security sector institutions, government ministries, public agencies and non-state security institutions, as well as US and Sweden Embassies, UN Women and UNMIL.

13 February 2018, Monrovia – Through the Ministry of Justice, the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) is holding a four-day self-assessment retreat from 13 to 16 February 2018. Funded by the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), this fourth annual internal evaluation process aims to determine institutional strengths, weaknesses and key priority areas for institutional development.
9 February 2018, Monrovia – The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) launched a three-month project aimed at enhancing conflict prevention and peace consolidation through increased food security in the fishery sector. It will be implemented by the National Fish Farmer Union of Liberia (NAFFUL) in collaboration with the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority (NAFA) and Fiamaba Fisheries Development Cooperation.
09 February 2018 – UNMIL Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Political and Rule of Law, Waldemar Vrey, Friday donated two 4WD vehicles to the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL). DSRSG Vrey said UNMIL was pleased and encouraged with the way that AFELL has structured itself in its advocacy role for women and children and by its continued efforts to ensure that their voices are heard in society. UNMIL was providing the vehicles to further enhance the work of the female lawyers’ organization because funding is not always readily available.
8-9 February 2018, Buchanan, Grand Bassa County - In recognition of the 18th Anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 and in response to the call in SCR 1325 urging consultation with local and international women’s groups, the UN Gender Theme Group (GTG) is hosting a Global Open Day on 8 and 9 February 2018. Women will identify Women Peace and Security priorities for Liberia in 2018 and evaluate progress made on the 2017 recommendations.
Monrovia – 6 February 2018, The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) in collaboration with its implementing partner the Universal Empowerment Mission (UEM) concluded a three-month project aimed to provide sanitation and hygiene education in four communities of Bensonville, capital city of Monstserrado County. This project was funded through UNMIL’s Quick Impact Project (QIP) funding mechanism.
5 February 2018, Monrovia - Over 14 years after UNMIL was deployed in compliance with Security Council resolution 1509 (2003), an official farewell ceremony was held in honour of the departing Police and Military personnel who have served with the Mission. This symbolized the end of UNMIL’s military and police operations in Liberia.
1 February 2018, Monrovia - UNMIL Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Political and Rule of Law, Mr. Waldemar Vrey on behalf of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) ceremonially handed over the project to Cllr. Elizabeth J. Nelson, Court Administrator, which on behalf of the Chief Honour Justice, assured that all support received will be utilized for the intended purposes.
31 January 2018, Monrovia - UNMIL Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Political and Rule of Law, Mr. Waldemar Very, supporting the Judiciary institute, handed over books and equipment to establish a Human Rights Library for the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) Secretariat.
24 January 2018, Monrovia – A two-day workshop on gender-responsive conflict analysis focusing on women, peace and security (WPS) was conducted by a joint mission led by the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) , the Department of Field Support (DFS) gender unit and UN Women in collaboration with United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) gender unit.
Monrovia - On 14 December 2017, the Ministries of Justice, Defense and Gender, Children and Social Protection supported by the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) convened a Conference of Women in the Security Sector under the slogan ‘Nothing for Us, Without Us,’ at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs premises.
The Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL) trained journalists in Voinjama, Lofa County from 28 to 30 November 2017. The initiative titled: Gender Sensitive Reporting; fairer portrayal of Women in the Media was funded by the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL)’s Quick Impact Project to strengthen the skills of journalists and editors to analyze facts, issues and data from a gender perspective.
