We the Heads of the undersigned international observer missions present in Kenya issue this communiqué on the election rescheduled for the 28th of October.

We note the decision of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to postpone polling in Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori and Siaya counties, based on article 55b of the electoral law.

CEWARN co-convenes roundtable seminar on “Addressing the nexus between business and peace”

23 July 2015, Zanzibar -- IGAD’s Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN) and the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) in collaboration with the Government of Zanzibar, the East African Community (EAC) and Common Market for Easter and Southern Africa (COMESA) convened a business leaders roundtable on “Addressing the nexus between Business and Peace,” on 22 July 2015 in Zanzibar.

The meeting was called following the directive issued by the EAC Heads of the State at their 13th Extra-Ordinary Summit held on 13th May 2015, in Dar es-Salaam, Tanzania.

The heads of state consulted on the situation in burundi. At the time they were consulting, there were new developments in Burundi: -

1. Summit condemns the coup in Burundi and calls for the return to consitutional order.

2. Given the situation in Burundi, conditions are not conducive for elections in Burundi and the summit calls upon the authorities to postpone the elections for a period not beyond the mandate of the current government.
