Parties to the South Sudan conflict signed a power-sharing deal on 5 August 2018 in Khartoum. The latest governance arrangement is part of several deals concluded recently. However, the numerous broken peace deals in South Sudan in the past raise concerns about implementation.

The Sudanese Federal Plant Protection Administration has announced the appearance of the autumn cluster worm* in South Kordofan and described the worm as a threat to food security in the state.
Farmers told Radio Dabanga that the worm has appeared in Rashad, Dalami, and the areas adjacent to Habila agricultural projects.
They pointed out that the worm affects the stalks of sorghum and maize and is difficult to fight with pesticides.

Flooding remains in four northern provinces, four northeastern provinces and a central province on Monday -- and water levels are rising in most of them, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said.
Chayapol Thitisak, director-general of the department, said that parts of the northern provinces of Chiang Rai, Lampang, Nan and Phayao are under water, affecting some 13,000 people. Floodwater was rising in all those provinces except Chiang Rai. Tropical storm Bebinca and the southwestern monsoon were responsible, he said.

BEIJING — China’s national observatory has renewed an orange alert for heavy rain on Aug 19 and Aug 20.
From Aug 19 to the morning of Aug 20, heavy rain is expected to hit parts of Henan, Hebei, Tianjin, Shandong, and Liaoning, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).
Some areas in Shandong, Hebei, and Liaoning are expected to experience downpours of up to 280 mm within 24 hours, the NMC forecast.
Aug 19, 2018-A concrete bridge over a local Sandi stream at Barhabise bazaar was swept away on Saturday. The bridge connecting Barhabise and Khursani bazaar was slightly pushed by flood and landslide triggered by Friday night’s incessant rainfall.
Vehicular movement has been disrupted and Tatopani border has been cut off from Barhabise following the incident.
The stream started spilling over after the landslide debris blocked the bridge. According to local Rajendra Sherstha, Panic-stricken people ran to safety after the bridge was swept at around 10 pm last night.
