1. Assessment Findings
With an arable area of about 3 300 000 ha, Iraq has a great agricultural potential, with 5 million people involved in the agriculture sector. The total population is about 32 million, of which one- third reside in rural areas and are dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods.
Since the crisis that broke out in December, 2013 in South Sudan, 1.3 million people are estimated to remain internally displaced across the country and just 449,000 people have fled the violence to neighboring countries (Uganda 121,600, Kenya 42,700, Ethiopia 185,000 and Sudan 90,300). There are currently over 95,000 IDPs sheltering in nine UN bases across South Sudan. This translates to one in seven people in South Sudan have been displaced from their homes since conflict began.

The Humanitarian situation relating to the Syrian Refugees in both Jordan and Lebanon is as confusing and ambiguous as the political situation in Syria. Most of the information obtained about the Syrian refugees in the region is based on speculation and guesses, the same regarding plans and future possible scenarios of future humanitarian response. This is due to the sensitivity of the political situation in both countries relating to Syria and the uncertainty over how the situation in Syria is likely to develop.
