Background and Key Findings
1. Background & Rationale
2018 Whole of Syria Child Protection Governorate Profiles is a compilation of child protection data collected for the 2018 Syria Syria Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO). It aims to provide analysis of child protection needs and risks at governorate level to support child protection actors in programme development, resource mobilisation and advocacy to respond to the protection needs of children in Syria.
In September 2017, the Ministry of Health in Brazil declared the end of the 2016–2017 yellow fever outbreak in the country. The upsurge of human cases since December 2017 and the continuous non-human primate epizootics since September 2017 indicate a continued or resumed increase in yellow fever virus circulation in Brazil. Since January 2018, most of the yellow fever cases have been reported from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais states.
The Euphrates Shield DYNAMO assesses the general situation, humanitarian conditions, state of services, and priorities for sub-districts and camps in the Euphrates Shield Area (ESHA) in May and June 2017.
Contexte et méthodologie
• In the week prior to the start of the February Eastern Ghouta offensive, during which time data was collected, the incomplete SMEB costs of Kafr Batna and Duma subdistricts rose on average by 86,614 SYP (25%) to 427,829 SYP. The value of increase was greater than the highest complete SMEB cost observed this month. Prices in Kafr Batna and Duma have presumably risen significantly since the offensive began.
2. Background & Rationale
After unprecedented levels of displacement were observed in Afghanistan in 2016, the situation remained unstable in 2017.
Since January, approximately 286,000 undocumented Afghans have returned from Pakistan and Iran (IOM, 2017) and an estimated 202,109 people have been displaced internally by conflict (OCHA, 2017).
About the Survey
February 25, 2018 marked the six-month anniversary of intensified flight from northern Rakhine State. On August 25 last year, Myanmar’s military launched renewed ‘clearance operations,’ ostensibly in response to attacks on police posts by Rohingya insurgents. Since then, 671,000 Rohingyas have fled across the border to Bangladesh; while arrival numbers have slowed, a trickle of refugees continue to cross the border, escaping ongoing persecution.
Tropical Cyclone HOLA have sweep through Penama ,Malampa ,Sanma ,Shefa and Tafea on the 5th Of march to 10th of march 2018 . The effects of the system have caused several damages to crops, vegetation, roads and buildings. (See below the Tracking Map of the system, source VMGD)
Survey Methodology and Demographics
To carry out the Flood Perception Survey, 30 trained enumerators are deployed throughout the ten most heavily flood affected districts to collect data over the course of 10 days from a total of 1800 respondents using a probability proportionate to size (PPS) methodology. All data collection is completed with mobile tablets using KoBo Toolbox.

It is estimated that around 75,000 people have returned to Raqqa city since the end of the hostilities in October 2017. There is still widespread presence of landmines, booby traps and unexploded ordinances across the city. Official UN reports note that at least 534 civilians have been injured through blasts of which 112 fatalities since October 2017. Further demining is required before the city can be called safe for return.
The overall food security situation in Deir-ez-Zor city has relatively improved after the lifting of the siege (September 2017) due to better commercial flows into the city, increased food availability and reduced food prices.

About this factsheet
This factsheet is the product of a protection monitoring partnership, funded by ECHO, implemented by ACTED and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), and facilitated by REACH, that aims to inform protection programming in Libya. Each month, the partners visit selected sites of displacement near Tripoli and Benghazi to collect data related to the humanitarian needs of populations of concern, primarily IDPs and returnees.
Muslim IDPs have been living in the IDP camps of rural Sittwe in eight and ten unit temporary shelters since the inter-communal violence of 2012. Unlike Kachin State where scantling timber is often used to construct temporary shelters in IDP camps, in Rakhine State, the Rakhine State Government (RSG) approves the use of myar posts (jungle wood) instead of scantling to maintain the temporary nature of the IDP camps.
1.1 Background and Objective
The increase in the number of refugees from the Syrian Arab Republic (Syria) across the region in 2017 continued and the need remains for a large-scale response to address the needs of refugees already present in the host community. As of end of 2017, 655,624 Syrian refugees were registered with UNHCR, including refugees hosted in Za’atari, Azraq camps, Emirati Jordanian (EJC) camp and King Abdullah Park.
