The Start Fund Crisis Anticipation Window enables members to begin responding before a crisis turns into a disaster. Acting in anticipation of humanitarian crises is new for many agencies. It can be difficult to decide when to trigger an anticipatory alert through the Start Fund and what activities are the most effective.

A Flood-Warning means that some flooding is already occurring or is likely to occur. The combination of the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone and a mid-level trough system has been generating cloudy to overcast skies, pockets of moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms across St. Vincent and the Grenadines during the morning.

Flash-flooding is already occurring in some areas. In this cause, on the Grenadine Island of Bequia. As a consequence, a Flood–Warning has been issued and will remain in effect until 6:00 pm this evening.

Ministry of Health officials have announced that a state-of-the-art wellness centre will be constructed in Micoud.

The announcement was made at a recent meeting held to update residents on planned developments within the community. The meeting also served to provide feedback to government officials on the community’s health service challenges and needs, in order to inform the design and discuss appropriate sites for the development of the facility.

The Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre has produced first flagship science report "Science for disaster risk management 2017: knowing better and losing less".

This report is the result of the multi-sectorial and multi-disciplinary networking process and represents the combined effort of more than two hundred, mostly European, experts. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration 3 Nock-Ten (Nina) (PAGASA), the Philippines is prone to tropical cyclones due to its geographical location which generally produce heavy rains, flooding of large areas and also strong winds which result in heavy casualties to human life and destruction to crops and properties. On average, the country is frequented by 20 tropical cyclones annually, almost half of which made landfall.

  • Tropical Cyclone DINEO continued moving west south-west over the Mozambique Channel towards southern Mozambique, strengthening. On 15 February at 00.00 UTC, its centre was located approx. 260 km north-east of Inhambane city (Inhambane province) and had max. sustained wind speed of 111 km/h (Tropical Storm). It is expected to make landfall close to Massinga city (Massinga district, Inhambane province), on 15 February afternoon (UTC) possibly as a Tropical Cyclone (equivalent to a Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale).

In March 2015, the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction was held in Sendai, Japan.
In it, the United Nations Member States agreed and adopted the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. This framework is the main guiding instrument for Disaster Risk Management (DRM) in the countries and has a renewed sense of urgency within the scope of sustainable development and the eradication of poverty.

El Instituto Uruguayo de Meteorología (INUMET) emitió una advertencia de nivel naranja por vientos muy fuertes para los departamentos de Treinta y Tres, Lavalleja, Florida, Montevideo, Canelones, San José, Maldonado y Rocha, que rige desde las 20 hs del miércoles 26 de octubre y será actualizada a las 18 hs de 27 de octubre. El Sistema Nacional de Emergencias difundió recomendaciones para enfrentar este evento metereológico.
