Bacolod-Kalawi is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Lanao del Sur. According to a 2015 census, it has a population of 20,841 people. It was formerly known as Bacolod Grande, it was changed into its present name by virtue of Muslim Mindanao Autonomy Act No. 32 in 1994. The town is politically divided into 26 barangays.

Municipality of Munai is the 4th class in the province of Lanao del Norte.
According to the 2015 census, it has population of 32,973 people with 26 barangays.

Munai is bounded by the municipality of Tangcal, Bacolod and Kauswagan on the north, Poona Piagapo on the east, Piagapo on the south, and Madalum on the west.

Brief overview of the context and province

Bubong is 2nd class municipality in the province of Lanao del Sur. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 22,336 people with 36 barangays. The driving distance between Marawi City and Bubong is 27 kilometres with more or less 30 minutes travel time.

The town is currently hosting more than 300 displaced families from Marawi City. Some of this IDPs are home based while more than 200 are temporarily sheltered in municipal gym and vacant rooms in the municipal hall.

Brief Overview of the Context and Province

The town of Salvador is a 5th class municipality in Lanao del Norte. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 31,845 people with 25 barangays inhabited at 60% by Muslim belonging to Maranao tribe and 40% of settlers. The municipality is less than an hour to travel in Tubod the capital of Lanao del Norte province. Cabuyao river, Salug river and Culian river are both traversing the interior barangays of Salvador which made them susceptible into flood when heavy rains occurred.

After the devastating destruction caused by Typhoon Yolanda on November 8th 2013, which affected over 14 million people and cost the lives of at least 6,000 people, thousands of families still live in fear and unsafe conditions. As part of the humanitarian recovery and rehabilitation response, ACTED with support from Agence Française de Développement (AFD), ALSTOM Foundation and Lafarge implemented a multi-sector project which included the construction of 126 resilient shelters – “Eastwinds Residences” and supporting income generating activities of 38 beneficiaries.

Situation update on September 8, 2017

Hurricane Irma, 5 on saphir Simpson scale, passed over Haiti that night. The north-east and north-west were severely affected, particularly the coastline. The amount of water that is falling predicts flooding on the coast and inland. The most impacted areas are: Port-de-Paix - Jean Rabel in the North-West, the Ouanaminthe area on the border with the Dominican Republic also severely affected and Gonaives in the Upper Artibonite.

Irma a déjà ravagé les Petites Antilles et touché Porto Rico, et se rapproche aujourd’hui dangereusement des côtes de la République dominicaine et d’Haïti, qu’il devrait frôler jeudi 7 septembre au soir.

On this sunny Wednesday morning of June, some thirty people gathered in the church of the Savanne, Les Cayes city, on the occasion of a community workshop to raise awareness and discuss solutions to prevent violence against children. "Child protection is our responsibility. Each one of us has a key role to play in the community to prevent its members from being subject to violence, and to tackle violence", says the Chairman of the Protection Committee. Participants agreed with the president’s speech, punctuated by laughter and cries of young children playing near the place.

In October 2016, Jérémie, the chief town of the Grand'Anse department, was one of the most affected by Hurricane Matthew, with extreme on access to water because of destroyed infrastructures, mudflows and difficult sanitary conditions. This paved the way to a new cholera outbreak. The number of suspected cases doubled between September and October.

En octobre 2016, Jérémie, chef-lieu du département de la Grand’Anse, a été une des localités les plus touchées par l’ouragan Matthew, dont les conséquences ont été particulièrement extrêmes sur l’accès à l’eau potable, entre infrastructures détruites, coulées de boue et conditions sanitaires difficiles. Cette situation a entraîné une recrudescence de choléra, avec un nombre de cas suspects multiplié par deux entre septembre et octobre.

En ce mercredi de juin, une trentaine de personnes se sont réunies dans l’église du quartier de Savanne, aux Cayes, à l’occasion d’un atelier communautaire de sensibilisation et d’échanges sur la prévention des violences subies par les enfants. « Nous sommes responsables de la protection des enfants. Chacun de nous a un rôle à jouer dans la communauté pour empêcher que ses membres ne subissent des violences, et pour lutter contre elles », exhorte Le président du Comité de protection.

Le mois d’avril marque le début de la saison des pluies en Haïti. Du 20 au 23 avril dernier, plus de six mois après le passage ravageur de l'ouragan Matthew sur les départements du Sud et de la Grand’Anse, le Sud a été touché par des intempéries intenses. Quatre jours de fortes pluies ininterrompues ont causé des inondations, coupé les routes, entraîné l’effondrement du pont de Port Salut, dont dépend l’accès à six communes, et ont conduit à des pertes agricoles et de bétail considérables.

ACTED has been mobilised in the Sud and Grand’Anse departments since hurricane Matthew hit the region on 4 October 2016 to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to affected populations. In all sectors, needs reached high levels: Matthew caused terrible damages, casualties and losses, destroying houses, infrastructure and crops, and leaving 1.4 million Haitians in need of humanitarian assistance.

L'œil de l'ouragan a directement touché les départements du Sud, de la Grand'Anse, mais a aussi provoqué d'importants dégâts dans les Nippes et les zones côtières des départements du Nord-Ouest, de l'Artibonite et de l'Ouest. Cette catastrophe a frappé le pays à une période de grande vulnérabilité, suite à trois années de sécheresse sévère, liée au phénomène El Niño, entre autres aléas naturels récurrents.

Port-au-Prince, 4 April 2017 - On October 4th 2016, a category 4 Hurricane Matthew struck Haiti. The hurricane's eye directly affected the Sud and Grand'Anse departments, but also caused important damages in Nippes, Nord-Ouest, Artibonite and Ouest. This disaster struck the country during a period of great vulnerability, after three years of severe drought, linked to the El Niño phenomenon, among other recurrent natural hazards. The food insecurity situation, already worrying in 2015 with 47.5% of the families affected in the drought zones (CNSA, 2015), has significantly worsened.
