Guam advised to take precautions in the heavy winds and rains

The National Weather Service, Forecast Office, Tiyan Guam, latest advisory stated, now through 3 p.m., fast moving showers will bring periods of heavy rain and strong wind gusts to Guam. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches and wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are now possible, especially over northern Guam.

SAIPAN, CNMI – Federal aid to Typhoon Soudelor survivors on Saipan has passed $25 million.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved just over $20 million in Individual Assistance to households on the island, and the U.S. Small Business Administration has approved nearly $5.9 million in low-interest disaster loans to Saipan homeowners, renters and businesses.

FEMA provides grants while SBA lends money at below-market rates to survivors.

FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii (Sept. 4, 2015) -- Delta Company of the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power) deployed to Saipan in August and provided much-needed power line restoration support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) authority missions in response to Typhoon Soudelor. Typhoon Soudelor struck Saipan Aug. 2-3 with estimated 120-mph gusts, heavy rains, and lightning, leaving the island's 50,000 residents and tourists without water or power.

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam — When Typhoon Soudelor struck the small island of Saipan Aug. 2, the tropical storm likely was a side note in the daily news headlines for many Americans. But for one of Andersen Air Force Base’s own, the storm literally hit close to home.

U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Louie Lacsina, an air transportation specialist with the 36th Mobility Response Group and a native of Saipan, deployed along with five 36th Contingency Response Group wingmen to assist ongoing relief efforts on his home island.

Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation, including the Hospital and the Division of Public Health would like to update the Pacific community regarding the situation in Saipan. As of today (Day 13) the island continues to slowly recover from the devastation of Typhoon Soudelor, measured as the strongest typhoon in the world this year, and reported to be the strongest typhoon in CNMI in 47 years. Wind speeds were measured at 214 MPH at one Saipan location. On day 13 post-typhoon, nearly 100% of our 48,000 residents remain without electricity, and nearly 80% of the island remains without water.
