MAP International is preparing to ship
over $4 million in medicines and medical supplies to help over a million
people made homeless by civil war in Liberia.
With the former President Charles Taylor now in exile, international peacekeeping troops are pressuring rebel groups to allow humanitarian aid through the port in the capital city of Monrovia.
MAP International has expanded its role in support of the rebuilding of Iraq. After shipping in March four tons of essential medicines and medical supplies, MAP has increased its support with a shipment of $1.5 million in supplies that left Atlanta for Baghdad on May 15.
As the people of Iraq begin to rebuild
their country and heal the wounds of war, there is an immense need for
medicines and medical supplies to treat and cure diseases brought on as
a result of war.
According to the Red Cross, the medical system in Baghdad has "virtually collapsed". Poor water and power supplies in the main cities present a high risk of epidemic or disease.
