Geneva – IOM, the International Organization for Migration, reports that 110,833 migrants and refugees entered Europe by sea in 2018 through 9 December. This year is the fifth straight during which the arrival of irregular migrants and refugees has topped the 100,000 threshold – although 2018’s total is low compared to those recorded at this time in 2017 (165,536) and 2016 (354,395).

The report is based on incidents identified in open sources and reported by Aid in Danger partner agencies using the Security in Numbers Database (SiND). The focus is on countries where possible changing or emerging risks can be identified. The total number of reported incidents below reflects the willingness of agencies to share information. It is neither a complete count nor representative.

The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) monitors trends in staple food prices in countries vulnerable to food insecurity. For each FEWS NET country and region, the Price Bulletin provides a set of charts showing monthly prices in the current marketing year in selected urban centers and allowing users to compare current trends with both five-year average prices, indicative of seasonal trends, and prices in the previous year.

Outside of sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean is the region with the highest HIV incidence rate among adolescents aged 10–19 years, and key indicators show only limited progress in meeting their HIV prevention needs. Since 2010, for example, the estimated 19,000 new HIV infections annually among 10- to 19-year-olds is essentially unchanged. The situation is roughly the same among younger children.

In Peru, a surge of an average of 4,000 daily arrivals, before the deadline of 31st of October for the Temporary Stay Permit, has led Peruvian authorities and partners to scale up the response.

Intergovernmental discussions continue to take place in order to strengthen regional coordination, in advance of the Quito II meeting on November 22 and 23.

In 16 countries, 75 partners participating to the Regional and National Platforms progress with the articulation of a Refugee and Migrant Response Plan for 2019.

November 21, 2018, Buenos Aires- Poverty in the rural areas of Latin America and the Caribbean has increased for the first time in a decade, says a new FAO publication presented today during the Week of Agriculture and Food held in Argentina's capital.

Geneva – IOM, the UN Migration Agency, reports that 103,347 migrants and refugees entered Europe by sea in 2018 through 14 November. Spain topped 50,440 – more irregular arrivals to Spain through 45 weeks of 2018 than all arrivals during the past three years combined.

This marks the fifth straight year arrivals of irregular migrants and refugees have topped the 100,000 mark, although this year’s totals are low compared to those at this time in 2017 (156,708) and 2016 (343,158).

Des garde-côtes américains ont reconduit au Cap-Haïtien (Nord), le 10 novembre 2018, 87 ressortissants haïtiens et une Dominicaine. Ces voyageurs se trouvaient à bord d’une embarcation de fortune qui se dirigeait clandestinement vers Nassau (Bahamas). Au nombre de ces boat people figurent 17 femmes, 55 hommes et 16 mineurs, a observé Jésula Blanc représentante du GARR à Ouanaminthe (Nord-est).

Les boat people ont été appréhendés près des eaux territoriales cubaines, le 7 novembre 2018, au moment où le navire qui les transportait, se trouvait en difficulté.
