  • Tropical cyclone TRAMI continued north-east toward Okinawa Island (Okinawa prefecture, Japan), as a typhoon. On 28 September at 0.00 UTC its centre was located 390 km south-west of Itoman City and it had maximum sustained winds of 167 km/h.

  • It is forecast to pass close or over Okinawa Island on 29 September early morning UTC. Heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge may affect the Ryuku Islands and Kyushu and Shikoku Islands, as well as north-eastern Taiwan over 28-30 September.

  • Tropical cyclone TRAMI (PAENG in the Philippines) continued moving north-west toward the Yaeyama Islands (Okinawa prefecture, Japan), slightly weakening. On 26 September at 0.00 UTC its centre was located 612 km south of Itoman City (Okinawa Prefecture, Japan) and it had maximum sustained winds of 204 km/h (intense typhoon).

  • Over the next 24 hours, it is forecast to continue toward Yaeyama Islands, weakening further but remaining a typhoon. Heavy rain may affect Northern Luzon (Philippines), north-east Taiwan and the Yaeyama Islands (Japan) over 26-28 September.

The National Meteorological Center issued red warning of typhoon at 6:00 p.m. on September 15. This year’s 22th typhoon Mangkhut, (super typhoon scale), was centered around over 760 km of northeastern South China Sea (48m/s). The minimum air pressure registered 945 hPa.

It is forecast to move west by north direction at the speed of 30 km/h and is predicted to make landfall around afternoon to the night of September 16.

At 6:00 p.m. today, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) upgraded the emergency response to typhoon Mangkhut to the level two. It is required that the relevant meteorological sectors attached to CMA enter the emergency position immediately and put corresponding meteorological services in place. The potential affected areas such as Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi are expected to sustain or adjust the emergency state according to local realities.
