21 April 2009 - In Angola (-5%) and Zambia (-4%) the sorghum growing season has been dry up to now and local reductions to average yields are possible. Well above average sorghum yields are seen in Lesotho (+7%). Crop yield prospects are also normal to good in Botswana (-1%) and South-Africa (+1%).

 In Malawi, past 10 days some drought relief was seen. Still yield reductions are expected in many parts of the country although local differences are seen.

1 April 2009 - In Zambia the growing season has been dry up to now and reductions in yield of about -8% are expected. Above average maize yields are seen in Botswana (+5%) and Lesotho (+4%). In Swaziland (-1%) and South Africa (2%) normal national average yields are expected. Below average national yields of about -8% to -9% are seen in Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

In Malawi, the Northern as well as the Southern Region have been dry since the start of the growing season and reduced yields of about -11% are forecasted.

GABORONE, 27 March 2009 (IRIN) - Rain continues to lash countries along the course of the upper Zambezi River, aggravating already extensive flooding in Angola, Botswana, Namibia and Zambia, where crops and infrastructure have been destroyed.

5 February 2009 - In Malawi, Zambia and Swaziland the growing season has been dry up to now and reductions in yield up to -10% are expected. Above average maize yields are seen in Lesotho (+8%) and normal national yields in Botswana (2%) and South Africa (3%). Moderate dry conditions in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Angola could result in yield decreases that are about 5% lower than the 5 years average.
