Dengue

  • Ongoing dengue serotype-2 outbreak in Kiribati. As of 22 June there have been 1353 cases including 30 hospitalised cases and one death.

  • Dengue serotype-1 outbreak is ongoing in Wallis and Futuna. As of 3 July there have been 188 cases including 21 hospitalisations since September 2017. For further details please refer to Patrick Lambruschini's PacNet post on 26 June 2018.

· Fiji had declared the dengue outbreak over. The Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical Services reported in a decrease in the number of dengue fever cases reported nationally in the last six weeks. • Kiribati reports an increase in dengue-like illness cases. Since 21 March 2018, 95 samples have been tested, of these 22 tested NS1 +ve using Dengue duo RDT kit. Dengue:

• There are ongoing dengue serotype-2 outbreaks in American Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu. The weekly number of cases (dengue serotype-2) reported has decreased significantly in Tonga and Samoa.

• Dengue serotype-1 outbreak is ongoing in Wallis and Futuna

• Outbreak is ongoing in Fiji. There has been a cluster identified in a boarding school in the Central Division. The cases are being treated at the tertiary hospital (Colonial War Memorial Hospital), while contacts of the cases have received appropriate antibiotic prophylaxis. • As of March 1st , 2018 there have been 69 confirmed cases of Dengue in Tonga via Dengue duo Rapid diagnostic kit from 212 samples tested. Dengue serotype-2 has been identified responsible for the outbreak. Source- Tonga MOH

• Ongoing dengue situation in Vanuatu with 86 suspected cases as of 27th February, 2018. Of these cases, 25 confirmed cases by NS1 or IgM and samples and pending PCR and Serotyping at Institute Pasteur in New Caledonia (IPNC). During disasters, the PHT provides support to governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and communities in delivering a fast, effective and appropriate disaster response. Outside of disasters, the PHT works with the Pacific governments and partners to ensure that the necessary arrangements are in place to enable effective international support to nationally-led disaster response.
