Le ministre de la Coopération et de l’Action humanitaire, Romain Schneider, s’est rendu le 3 septembre 2018 à Berlin pour participer à la conférence de haut niveau sur la région du lac Tchad, co-organisée par l’Allemagne, le Nigéria, la Norvège et les Nations unies.
La conférence à Berlin a eu comme objectif de réaffirmer des efforts politiques et mobiliser des soutiens financiers additionnels afin de faire face à la crise humanitaire dans la région du lac Tchad.
Aquarius has received formal permission from the Maltese authorities to enter the port of Valletta. MSF is relieved that a place of safety has been found for the 141 vulnerable people rescued on the Mediterranean. They are survivors of two search and rescue events which were coordinated by Libyan Joint Rescue Coordination Centre. We welcome the news that France, Germany, Luxembourg, Portugal and Spain have also agreed to share responsibility in a coordinated European response.
The Government of Luxembourg has announced that it will renewal its €1 million contribution to UNAIDS for the western and central Africa catch-up plan, with the funds focused on pediatric care and treatment and human rights. Launched in December 2016, the western and central Africa catch-up plan aims to ensure that 4.5 million people living with HIV in the region will have access to HIV treatment by 2020.

• Grounds for detention in immigration law appear to be formulated in a nonexhaustive way, which is inconsistent with the principle of lawfulness and the requirement of legal certainty;
• The law provides an expansive list of situations that can lead to a risk of absconding determination, including irregular entry or stay;
• The broad basis for finding a risk of absconding leads to detention being applied systematically rather exceptionally, thus “less coercive measures” are rarely used;
Push for transfers at any cost – the Dublin system in 2017
The 2017 Dublin Update, published by the Asylum Information Database, releases figures for 18 European countries revealing an increase in transfers in the aftermath of European Union and domestic political commitments for a stricter enforcement of the Dublin system.

GENEVA - 27 March 2018 – Donors have pledged an additional US$15.3 million to support quick action by the World Health Organization to tackle disease outbreaks and humanitarian health crises through its emergency response fund in 2018, the Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE).
During 2017, almost 38,900 refugees were submitted by UNHCR for resettlement1 to 25 countries in Europe,2 36% more than during 2016 and over three times greater than the average rate of 12,400 submissions per year during the last decade.
Between 2007 and 2016, Europe’s proportion of resettlement sub-missions globally has increased from approximately 9% to more than 18%, and in 2017 reached 52%. This is primarily due to a significant decrease globally in new submissions for resettlement, most notably to the United States of America.

The EU Civil Protection Mechanism will be strengthened thanks to a new and important contribution from Luxembourg. Its satellite-based communication platform emergency.lu will establish internet and telephone communication directly in the aftermath of a crisis.
