Over the past year, with hunger as the main concern, the distribution of most emergency food aid in Central America was through food-for-work projects aimed at improving long-term food security and rehabilitating community infrastructure; however, where warranted, mother-child feeding programs used free rations to target malnutrition in children under five. In addition to emergency and non-emergency food aid, the U.S. Government (USG) supported programs that provided seeds and other agricultural inputs to farmers in the affected regions.
