States in the Liptako-Gourma region – including Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger – are imposing restrictive measures to try to quell the growing threat of terrorism. These include limiting the freedom of movement in several parts of their territories.

Au Burkina Faso, l'Organisation internationale pour les migrations (OIM), en collaboration avec le gouvernement et avec un financement de l'Union européenne (UE), soutient la création de groupes d'éleveurs de bétail pour aider des migrants rapatriés à se réintégrer dans leur pays d’origine.

Dans le centre-est et le centre-sud du Burkina Faso, les deux principales régions d'origine des migrants quittant ce pays, l'OIM a fourni environ 500 moutons, béliers, bœufs et ânes à 99 Burkinabè qui sont revenus de Libye et d'Algérie en 2018.

With the support of the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa, UNHCR, together with its partners, helps enhancing the socio-economic inclusion and self-reliance of Malian refugees and their host communities with a view to enabling long-term solutions.

Insecurity and inter-community violence has triggered a 140% increase in the number of internally displaced people (IDPs) in 2019. There are over 101 000 IDPs, with 60 000 newly displaced since January this year. The scale and speed of this displacement is unprecedented in Burkina Faso, resulting in food, shelter, wash, nutrition, protection and education needs.

À Saria, dans la province de Boulkiemdé, au centre-ouest du Burkina Faso, on aperçoit de plus en plus de femmes autour des enclos à chèvres et à moutons. Leur présence ne se limite pas au simple entretien des lieux. Elles en sont, pour la plupart, les propriétaires. L’une d’entre elles, Salimata Kaboré, gère une petite bergerie de quatre têtes, deux brebis et deux béliers.
