Recent NOAA Hysplit model trajectories indicate regional trade Winds will bring haze to the region. Central pacific wind patterns Are expected to change in a few days and will redirect haze farther To the north.

This April, 40 participants came together on Majuro Atoll in the North Pacific to discuss logistics solutions and disaster preparedness at Micronesia’s first Logistics Cluster sub-regional Workshop.

The five-day event convened by the World Food Programme’s Pacific Office, as lead of the Pacific Logistics Cluster, and Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), brought participants together from Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Kiribati, Palau and RMI, as well as a selection of regional agencies.

The USAID Deputy Mission Director Clay Epperson visited the Federated States of Micronesia (Chuuk State and Pohnpei State) from January 19-24, 2018. The purpose of the visit was to attend a close-out ceremony in Chuuk State for Typhoon Maysak. Deputy Director Epperson was accompanied by Mr. Robert Pierce, a colleague from the USAID Office in Manila.

Subsequent to the visit in Chuuk, Deputy Director Epperson and Mr. Pierce visited Pohnpei and along with US Ambassador Robert Riley and Deputy Chief of Mission Joanne Cummings, paid a courtesy call on Vice-President Yosiwo P. George.

In 2015, Typhoon Maysak hit the states of Chuuk and Yap, FSM. The ferocity of the storm severely damaged houses, crops and public infrastructure. Nearly 30,000 people were affected, representing more than 50 percent of Chuuk’s population and 10 percent of Yap’s.

USD 9 million has been approved for the Federated States of Micronesia to help island communities reduce vulnerability to extreme drought, sea level rise and other climate risks.

The 29th Meeting of the Adaptation Fund Board approved the "Enhancing the climate change resilience of vulnerable island communities in Federated States of Micronesia" project jointly developed by FSM and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), with assistance from regional partners.

  • Seven atolls/islands severely affected by the 2016 drought received a three month supply of supplemental food assistance (SFA) supplied by the U.S. Food Nutrition Service (FNS). The SFA was distributed to communities in Maloelap, Wotje, Mejit, Ailuk, Arno (Rearlaplap), Wotho and Kwajalein. The distributions began on October 21st and ended on November 17, 2016.

Micronesia Red Cross Society is preparing for the upcoming typhoon season by checking its stock of emergency relief Items. The Red Cross has a total of 5 disaster containers prepositioned across the states with enough emergency aid to help a total of 6,000 people.

The containers are used to store jerry cans, buckets, tarpaulins, shelter toolkits, blankets and hygiene kits which will be distributed to those who are most affected by a disaster.
