  • La production nationale de riz (paddy) est estimée à un peu plus de 3,1 millions de tonnes en 2017, soit 20 pour cent de moins qu’en 2016 et 19 pour cent de moins que la moyenne des trois précédentes années (2013-2015).

  • Ce recul de la production est principalement dû à un démarrage tardif de la saison des pluies et à une sécheresse sévère qui a tout particulièrement touché les principales régions productrices de riz du nord, du centre et de l’est en milieu de campagne.

Assessment Finding and Recommendation in brief:

On 19/10/2017, UNOCHA shared a list of 267 conflict induced IDP families in Ghazni city and requested joint need assessment. From 30/10/2017 to 2/11/2017, above mentioned organizations conducted joint need assessment and identified 88 IDP families who are displaced over course of last five months as result of worsening security in their places of origin. Remaining reported IDP families identified either protracted IDPs, split members of one family, located in insecure areas or not found/relocated.

  • A severe drought in mid-2017 gravely affected large agricultural producing areas and pasture rangelands.

  • The 2017 production of wheat, the country's main staple food, is forecast at 231 000 tonnes, almost half of last year’s high level and more than 40 percent lower than the average of the previous five years. The impact on other crops, including potatoes, barley, oats and buckwheat, was also severe.

The last few months has witnessed the Nigerian security forces recapturing the main towns and many of the villages of 22 of the 27 Borno Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 15 out of the 17 LGAs in Yobe, revealing the humanitarian needs of civilians previously under the control of Boko Haram.

In response to the devastating earthquakes of 25th April and 12th May 2015, the Government of Nepal, in cooperation with UNICEF, implemented an Emergency Top-up Cash Transfer Programme (ETCTP) for vulnerable groups between June and November 2015. An independent assessment of the programme using mixed methods was conducted between September and November 2015 to examine the outcomes, delivery processes and effectiveness of the ETCTP.

In Liberia, one of the Food Security Cluster’s main work priorities is to ‘ensure an effective, accountable and coordinated food security response founded on evidence-based interventions that advocate for and take into consideration the needs of each segment of affected communities by age, gender and diversity’ (FSC Liberia ToR and FSC Transition Planning 1st June 2015). In line with this strategy, HelpAge International has seconded an Inclusion Advisor to assist in identifying gaps in working with vulnerable groups and in developing appropriate strategies to address those gaps. .
