SUMMARY

As part of its emergency response to displaced persons in the region of Diffa, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) conducted a survey targeting displaced persons (DPs) in the Diffa region. The survey focused on the return intentions of the interviewees, their socioeconomic situation, and their environmental impact. The survey was conducted from 30 November to 7 December 2017 in three Departments out of the six of the Diffa region: Diffa, Mainé-Soroa and N’guimi. A total of 1,784 households were interviewed in 30 locations.

Le puits de Rijian Malam se trouve à 85 km au Nord-Est d’Abala dans la commune d’Abala. Tout autour du puits se sont installés plusieurs déplacés ayant fui les conflits intercommunautaires à la frontière Mali-Niger. Ce conflit oppose les Touaregs Daoussahak aux pasteurs Peulhs qui ont trouvé refuge autour de Rijian Malam. Certains Peulhs ont fait le mouvement à titre préventif car ils n’ont pas été attaqués par les Daoussahak. Pour les autres, c’est un mouvement postattaque.

Executive summary

Between March and April 2018, the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in cooperation with various international and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), conducted a Multi-cluster/sector Initial Rapid Assessment (MIRA) to gather information on the current migrant and refugee situation, identify needs and gaps and inform the planning and coordination of the immediate UN response. Below are outlined the key findings of the MIRA assessment and recommendations for further action.

Following an outbreak of violence on 25 August 2017 in Rakhine State, Myanmar, a new massive influx of Rohingya refugees to Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh started in late August 2017. Most of the Rohingya refugees settled in Ukhia and Teknaf Upazilas of Cox’s Bazar, a district bordering Myanmar identified as the main entry areas for border crossings.

Survey Methodology and Demographics

To carry out the Flood Perception Survey, 30 trained enumerators are deployed throughout the ten most heavily flood affected districts to collect data over the course of 10 days from a total of 1800 respondents using a probability proportionate to size (PPS) methodology. All data collection is completed with mobile tablets using KoBo Toolbox.
