The Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) aims to offer professionals a strong understanding of the contemporary humanitarian challenges through a comprehensive overview of conceptual and operational aspects of humanitarian past and present crises. Their study will allow participants to acquire the necessary tools in order to analyze, understand and engage in critical reflection on the response to nowadays humanitarian emergencies.

The MAS offers postgraduate-level education focused on building in-depth competencies for managers. It provides participants with a strong understanding of the central conceptual and operational aspects of humanitarian action and the capacity to define and implement strategic humanitarian responses. CERAH provides an open and welcoming learning environment and fosters an interactive community of students, researchers and professionals located in international Geneva and beyond.

Our Programme

Sexual violence is widespread in conflicts and emergencies, and can do lasting harm to men, women, children, LGBT people, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. Developed with expert input from ICRC, MSF, UNHCR, UNFPA, Physicians for Human Rights and Handicap International, CERAH's intensive one-week course gives emergency program managers the critical analysis and practical tools they need to design, implement and evaluate multidisciplinary programs to prevent and respond to sexual violence.

Our Programme

CERAH's short course on negotiation in humanitarian settings aims to provide programme managers with the necessary skills to efficiently negotiate with stakeholders and useful tools to design a negotiation strategy adapted to their specific professional context.

The course is given by external speakers, including academics and practitioners from different institutions and organizations such as the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, ICRC and Doctors without Borders.

Humanitarian staff are often confronted with chronic diseases, particularly when crises hit populations from middle-income countries and in urban settings. However, as programmatic responses are relatively recent, there is a lack of trained and experienced staff. Our Programme

CERAH offers a one-week intensive course on Sexual and Reproductive Health in Emergencies. This course was developed jointly with the Norwegian Refugee Council’s standby roster NORCAP and UNFPA.

The course aims to develop the understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues in emergencies and provide participants with the necessary skills to coordinate the implementation of a minimum set of sexual and reproductive health interventions. It addresses to mid-level or senior managers.
