The Forage Center for Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Education, Inc. will host Coastal Promise – Maryland in Swanton (Garrett County), Maryland USA September 20-23, 2018. Coastal Promise is a full-scale 4-day field training exercise. The site is a 2.5 hour drive west of Washington, DC. For those flying to the program, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is the best airport. The Forage Center can pick up and return students to the Pittsburgh International Airport.

Course Description

Humanitarian organizations, international agencies and governments that serve populations affected by crises find themselves increasingly in urban settings. Agencies face new challenges, and some potential advantages, in these complex urban environments and are only just learning how to approach them. These new challenges take many forms: complicated physical layouts, poorly prepared institutions and infrastructure, a mixed target population of refugees and underserved locals.
