TB is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in infants, children and adolescents in TB endemic countries, but is often unrecognised due to under-detection and under-reporting. Many of the high burden TB countries are situated in the Asia-Pacific region, but the burden of TB in children in these countries is poorly understood. Increasingly, national TB programmes are working with the child health sector to incorporate an approach to childhood TB into their national strategies. However, TB in children and adolescents provide specific challenges for diagnosis, management and prevention.
