Each year, the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) hosts the WIDER Annual Lecture. It is delivered by an eminent scholar or policymaker who has made a significant contribution in the field of economics of development and transition.
This year the lecture will be given on 18 November by Professor C. Peter Timmer, a leading international scholar on agriculture and rural development. He will discuss the tensions experienced during structural transformation processes, such as increased rural-urban income gaps; review the political dangers from unequal growth; and outline how the world community can learn to manage these issues moving forward. These areas are central to current Member States’ negotiations around the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
The lecture will be followed by an open discussion with Professor Timmer and the audience.
