Introduction
Globally, health systems’ strengthening has been recognized as critical for improvement of health services. Challenges in health system governance, leadership and management; health financing; critical shortages and inadequate performance of human resources for health; inadequacies and inappropriate usage of health information for decision making; limited access to medicines and technology as well as poor service delivery need to be adequately addressed as a matter of priority.
In order to address the key challenges in health systems, it is becoming increasingly clear that integrated, harmonized training that are aimed to better address all the key components of the health system.
The proposed training is expected to contribute in building a critical mass of policy makers and practitioners who understand the tenets and principles of health systems and will contribute to overall health systems strengthening to improvement of health outcomes globally.
Course objectives
This course aims at creating a critical mass of professionals and networks, well equipped with state-of-the-art knowledge on issues pertinent to Health Systems Strengthening. These professionals will be trained in good governance, leadership and management in the health sector and will be tasked to promote the same in their respective health programmes and settings, in partnership with regional networks and stakeholders.

Target group
Programme staff of humanitarian and development health-oriented agencies including project managers, officers and assistants.
Training methodology
A balanced combination of various adult-learning facilitation paradigms will be used including exploratory learning, group discussions, plenary brainstorming, facilitator’s input, case studies and video documentaries among others.
