From Commitment to Practice: advancing accountability to affected people (AAP) together in humanitarian responses

Against the backdrop of the Humanitarian Reset and growing pressure from widespread aid cuts, the humanitarian system faces a reckoning: adapt or risk failing the very people it seeks to support. Now is the moment for leaders and donors to act — to make accountability to affected people the foundation of a reset humanitarian system by driving structural change and creating the incentives to do so.

Co-hosted by OCHA , UNFPA, UNICEF, and ALNAP the event explores how lessons from evaluation and research about the challenges and successes of being accountable to affected people can help to break down and overcome systemic barriers to effective AAP. Through real-world examples of accountable responses, speakers will share learning on how AAP commitments are being translated into meaningful change that reflects the needs and priorities of crisis-affected people.

Join us on 18 November to hear what’s working in practice and identify concrete steps we can all take to strengthen accountability and advance the shift from commitment to action.

Speakers include:

  • Gemma Connell | Chief, Strategic Prioritization and Practices Branch, OCHA
  • Bouchta Mourabit | Deputy Representative in Syria, UNFPA
  • Charles Antoine Hofmann | Senior Advisor, Office of Emergency Programmes (EMOPS), UNICEF

The event will be facilitated by Juliet Parker, Director at ALNAP
