This course aims to provide pharmacists, doctors, nurses, and health professionals with a minimum of 1-2 years of demonstrated experience in pharmacy—either within national health programmes or in related areas such as pharmacy, hospitals, health centres, senior management roles, or industry—with the knowledge and skills required to design and implement a viable plan for strengthening pharmaceutical systems in any given context.
Pharmaceutical systems are essential for equitable and affordable access to quality medicines and their appropriate use. They are a foundational element for health systems and a prerequisite to Universal Health Coverage.
The maturity of pharmaceutical systems varies between health systems and health programmes, even within the same health system. Facilitating the strengthening of a pharmaceutical system requires a critical understanding of the challenges and gaps to address, the key actors involved, available resources, and the potential enablers and barriers to change.
