Community crisis intelligence (CCI) encompasses the tools and methods that combine crowdsourced data gathered from affected communities and frontline responders with artificial intelligence (AI) for more effective crisis mitigation, response or recovery.
This course is an introduction to ‘Community Crisis Intelligence’ (CCI) and its potential to bring forward the community voices and deliver faster, better and more localised humanitarian aid.
Is this course for me?
This course is designed for anyone in the humanitarian sector who wants to learn more about leveraging the potential of community intelligence and AI.
This is an introductory course and it does not require any prior knowledge of AI.
You may be in a management role trying to understand the business case for these approaches; in a technical role looking for ideas to improve current processes using CCI, or in a front-line role wanting to understand how to work with community data safely.
How will I benefit from this course?
The course is organised into five modules:
- Module 1 - Community Crisis Intelligence: Introducing the basics of CCI - including examples of the most common collective intelligence and AI techniques.
- Module 2 - The value of CCI: Learn how CCI can support humanitarian priorities from situational awareness and resource management to monitoring & evaluation.
- Module 3 - How to assess and manage AI risks: An overview of how to identify and manage the main risks of AI technology
- Module 4 - CCI in practice: Learn how participatory approaches can help you to implement CCI responsibly
- Module 5 - Additional resources: Links to additional reading materials and resources for learners inspired to dive deeper into CCI.
After this course you will be able to:
- Articulate the potential opportunities for using CCI in humanitarian operations
- Explain the benefits for crisis-affected communities and humanitarian staff
- Recognise the potential risks of working with AI and how they can be mitigated
- Describe how to use participatory approaches to implement CCI
How long will it take?
The course has 5 core modules and each module is approximately 20 mins in length. The whole course will take approximately 1 hour and a half to complete. However you do not need to complete the course in one go, you can always continue later from where you left off.
