Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination (UN-CMCoord) Training Course

The Civil-Military Coordination Service (CMCS) is pleased to invite you to our upcoming United Nations Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination (UN-CMCoord) training course. The residential training will be held from 02 to 07 October 2022 in Alicante, Spain, with 24 participants. The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and for Humanitarian Assistance (AECID), the Spanish Ministry of Defense, and Helsinki España Dimensión Humana are generously covering the training venue, board and accommodation for the duration of the course. We kindly ask your organization to take care of travel and applicable allowances.

Please note that certain CoVid-19 measures will apply. Participants must be vaccinated with one of the vaccines recognized in Spain and follow the Spanish Ministry of Health entry requirements ( The use of FFP2 masks will be mandatory during any movement in the hotel. In case of testing positive, the person will be quarantined at the hotel. Kindly note that neither the host nor OCHA will cover any cost arising from the consequences of a positive COVID-19 test.

CMCS, as part of OCHA’s Coordination Division, will lead the event. CMCS will bring together four interdependent emergency communities: a) OCHA and UN agencies; b) surge staff from Stand-by Partners, UNDAC and NSARAG; c) United Nations Member States, including domestic and international militaries; and d) non-governmental humanitarian organizations. We encourage mid-level managers to apply.

The objective of the training course is to: a) define the concept of humanitarian civil-military coordination (UN-CMCoord), including the five sets of UN-CMCoord guidance, b) assess the UN-CMCoord environment in operational contexts, and c) play a key role in support of UN-CMCoord as it relates to humanitarian access and protection outcomes.
