This 5-day training is designed to give an in-depth understanding of human rights, from
theoretical foundations and historical origins to international protection mechanisms and
substantive rights in context. Adopting a multidisciplinary and participatory approach, the
training will provide a solid grounding in foundational issues as well the practical operation
of human rights law from an international and comparative perspective. The course is ideal
for mid-career and senior professionals from NGOs, academia, research institutions, media,
government and business. The topics to be covered include:

  1. Theoretical Foundations and Historical Origins of Human Rights
  2. Human Rights under International Law, including the Nature of State Obligations
  3. The United Nations and Regional Systems of Human Rights Protection
  4. The Role of NGOs in Human Rights Monitoring
  5. Substantive Rights, including Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
  6. Gender Based Violence
  7. Contemporary Challenges, including Human Rights in times of conflict, Migration,
    and Climate Change
Fee information:
$2150 This fee includes the accommodation, meals, air travel to and from Nairobi, and the training costs. This does not include the visa fee.
