2019 Humanitarian Assistance Training Exercise - Coastal Promise FTX
The Forage Center for Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Education, Inc. is a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation that provides educational opportunities for students, educators, and professionals to build capacity to work in environments where peacebuilding and humanitarian responses are needed.
Coastal Promise is a full-scale 4-day field training exercise. The exercise recreates the challenges and conditions professionals encounter in complex emergencies characterized by conflict, disaster, and humanitarian need. During the exercise, participants, acting as members of a non-governmental organization, engage in intensive negotiations, humanitarian assistance, peacebuilding assessment, and human rights advocacy as part of a scenario based on a realistic conflict or humanitarian crisis. Coastal Promise is held in Swanton, Maryland (Garrett County) (USA). Garrett County is conveniently located - 2 hours from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and 3 hours from Washington DC.
The March 2019 Coastal Promise training exercise will take place March 14-17, 2019. It is geared toward graduate students in any field related to humanitarian assistance and disaster response, including (but not limited to): Emergency Management, International Relations, Conflict Resolution, Disaster Resilience, Social Work, Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement, Public Health, Nursing, International and Community Development, and Non-Profit Administration and Project Management. To attend the event, you must be a currently enrolled (part time or full time) graduate student. International students can apply, but the Forage Center will not sponsor visa applications. If you are not a graduate student, please contact us regarding other options for participating in our programming. Participants will receive a certificate documenting their participation and 70+ training hours obtained during the exercise.
