Dear Colleagues,

Following the referendum and withdrawal of the Indonesian forces 75% of the infrastructure in East Timor was destroyed and 200,000 people were forcibly deported to West Timor. 75% of the inhabitants became internally displaced, healthcare, sanitation and education infrastructures were destroyed. Production and economy were brought to a standstill.

The Disaster/Situation: The appeal attracted strong support and enabled the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and the Federation to provide vital relief supplies to vulnerable people in the wake of the floods. Extensive distribution of rice, dal and blankets was carried out effectively in several districts.
