Myanmar: Fire - Mar 1984

Since a serious fire broke out on 24 March 1984 in Mandalay, UNDRO has been monitoring the situation. A UNDRO/UNDP permanent representative reports over 2,700 houses destroyed and 23,250 persons rendered homeless. Government offices, co-operatives, commercial area, schools, stores, medical centres and cinemas were destroyed. Loss of property is estimated at 33 million US dollars. (UN DHA, 27 Mar 1984)
