Philippines: Typhoon - Nov 1987

Disaster description

Typhoon Sisang codename Nina with a strength of 250 kph hit the coastal central Philippines on 25 November 1987. The typhoon touched 19 provinces and created great damage to properties, infrastructure, communications, and the population. (UN DHA, 28 Nov 1987)

According to recent reports, there are 656 dead, 390 injured and 152 still missing. The number of affected families has risen to 219,218 and homeless families to 40,174. Damage to public and private property is now estimated at (Pesos 515,171,935) US dollars 25,266,000. The number of houses totally destroyed was 90,173 and partially destroyed was 109,663.
