Indonesia: Floods and Landslides - Feb 1990

Following torrential rains which caused serious floods in central java since end of last week, landslides hit several areas (Gura Bessi Village, North Jayapura district and Irian Jaya). Due to peak of rainy season, more rains expected. UNDP/UNDRO Resident Representative reported following casualties and damages: death toll 169. Population affected 21,000. Houses destroyed/damaged 7,600. Agricultural land inundated by water 12,000 hectares. (UN DHA, 2 Feb 1990)
