Algeria: Earthquakes - Jan 1987

Disaster description

On 26-27 January 1987, earthquakes struck a hilly/woody area 200 km west of Algiers, leaving 1 dead, 7 injured, and 900 homeless. Reported were 3 tremors ranging 3.3-4.8 on the richter scale but no damage. The series of quakes occurred in Wilaya de Tissemsilt, Daira de Bordj Bou Naama, and the village of Larbaa (30 km from Chlef). OCHA, 28 Jan 1987
