Algeria: Earthquake - Oct 1989

Disaster description

On 29 October 1989, at 20:10 local time, a 6.0 richter scale earthquake hit northern Algeria. The epicenter was located in Oued Djer in the El Affroun region (60 km west of Algiers city), affecting the districts of Blida, Tipasa, Boumerdes, Wilaya and El-Nador. An aftershock of 4.0 hit the same area a few minutes later. Reported were 22 death, 184 injured, and serious damages in Wilaya Tipasa. OCHA, 30 Oct 1989
