China: Typhoon Vera - Sep 1989

Disaster description

On 17 September, Typhoon 'Vera' hit the coastal province of Zhejiang and caused floods which affected 37 counties and isolated over 700 villages. (UN DHA, 19 Sep 1989)

The Ministry of Civil Affairs reported that the typhoon also hit Jiangsu province where 34 persons died, 2,000 were injured, and 590,000 ha of farmland was affected. (UN DHA, 29 Sep 1989)
